Aberdare National Park
Aberdare National Park is a high altitude National park created to protect the slopes and moorlands of the Aberdare Mountains. The park has an area of 767 km2 which covers the higher areas of the Aberdare Mountain Ranger of central Kenya from an altitude of 1892M to 4001M above the sea level. Aberdare National park is located 180 Km from Nairobi. Since 1950 this park has gained popularity and it’s a major attraction and one of the best places visited and loved by many travelers. This park’s topography is quite diverse with deep ravines that cut through the forested eastern and western slopes.
Animals that can be seen in this park include: the black rhino which is one of the main features in this park, Baboon, leopard,black and white colobus monkey,sykes monkey, rarer sightings of animals include those of lions ,the golden cats and the bongo. Animals like the elands and spotted and melanistic serval cats can be found higher up in the Moorlands. Travelers can also indulge in picnics, trout fishing in the rivers and camping in the moorlands. For the bird lovers bird viewing is rewarding, with over 250 species of birds in this park which includes hawks, sunbirds, goshawks,eagles and plovers.
Although Aberdare is close to the equator ,the altitude governs the climate.Its cooler than the lower plains and coastal areas and very misty and rainy year round.The sightings of this park are amazing and offers a unique experience.

How to get there:
The park is readily accessible on tarmac from Nyeri and Naro Moru on the eastern side and its 150Km from Nairobi. You can also get there by flight the nearest airstrip is the mweiga Airstrip on the opposite side from the park along Nyeri-Nyahururu road near sasin estate`farm.
