Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Nakuru National park was established in 1961.The park covers an area of 180 km and its situated in the rift valley region 156 km from Nairobi. Lake Nakuru ecosystem comprises of the lake, surrounded by mainly wooded and bushy grasslands. The park supports a wide ecological diversity with flamingos and other water birds making it a major attraction for bird lovers. In fact the lake has been described as the bird watchers paradise and also acknowledged as the greatest ornithological spectacle on earth as millions of flamingos flock this beautiful lake throughout the year
transforming its shores into a pink carpet. Over 300,000 birds can be witnessed at one site. The amazing National park was established to protect the colony of flamingos as well as the endangered species like white rhino and Rothschild giraffe. The lake also offers a sanctuary to huge numbers of native African animals like water bucks,warthogs,impalas,buffalo,endangered black rhinos,elands and a large herd of hippos which have a territory in the Northern part of the lake making ones game viewing interesting and memorable.

Getting to Lake Nakuru National park.
Its accessible by road. The main gate is 4km from lake Nakuru town center. The road from Nairobi to Nakuru is in good condition. By air chartered aircrafts land at Naishi airstrip located in the southern part of the park.
